For as long as man could write, man has written—not only regarding whatever he has found outside his being but also about what has resided within himself. Contrary to what we see, expression of how we feel demands the breaking of rules and social stigma. This is where the art of poetry comes in, allowing people from all walks of life to paint their own canvases and to showcase them, describing those experiences, or parts of themselves that demand a veil from prejudice to be viewed.
NLC, as a prominent literary body within NUST, invites you to come and “let go” of your own built-up emotions in the form of your poetry, or to share pieces from poets you admire at this year’s Student Mushaira. Use this platform to be who you want to be, to express who you are, and to learn just a little bit more about the inclinations of other poets around NUST.
Speaking of other poets, for those of you eager to brandish your verse in competition, we have exactly such a competition in store for you as well. You may register for the Mushaira as a contestant for either English or Urdu poetry and compete against other entrants for the recognition! All poetry will be recited in the same segment, but the judges will simply be keeping track of who is reciting as a contestant and who is reciting for participation or recreation. While the competition is restricted to Urdu and English only, all other participants are free to recite poetry in any language.
